Today’s Pie: Bluesberry custard

The crust was unremarkable in that it was without flaw.

The bluesberries were very excellent, despite their period in cryo.  They were the small, flavorful sort that one gets from the wild… or, perhaps, from a farm in Pennsylvania, rather than the bloated, bland and leather-skinned variety that one might find in a Mart of some sort. And there was sufficient volume that the flavor they imparted was substantial.
The custard was mild, and not very sweet, which served as a perfect vehicle to the fruit. Each mouthful yielded forth a cornucopia of flavors and textures, from sweet, to creamy, to savory, that this was one of those rare pies that exceeds the sum of its parts.
